On November 15, 2024, two technologies from our institute were selected for the 2024 List of Innovative Application Technologies for Marine Ecological Restoration
Our Chinese partner, Tianjin Desalination Institute, has been recognized for their remarkable contributions by receiving two prestigious technological achievement awards. These include the successful inclusion of their innovative technologies in the 2024 Ocean Ecological Restoration Innovative and Applicable Technology Achievements list, promoted by the China Ocean Engineering Consulting Association. This milestone marks significant progress in their technical R&D and achievement transformation in the field of marine and inland water ecosystem restoration, demonstrating exceptional potential for demonstration and promotion. Below are the details of these award-winning technologies:
Micro-Ecological Active Water Ecological Purification and Multi-Trophic Seawater Aquaculture Tailwater Ecological Restoration Technology
This technology addresses the long-standing issue of unregulated discharge of seawater aquaculture tailwater, which has caused ecological damage to aquaculture zones and coastal ecosystems. By employing an in-situ ecological restoration approach, the system aims to restore the ecosystem's self-purification functions through two main processes:
1.Micro-Ecological Active Water Purification Process:
Utilizing microorganisms' degradation functions as its core technology, supported by propulsion aeration devices, this process enhances the removal of pollutants such as nitrogen and phosphorus, thereby improving the ecosystem.
2.Multi-Trophic Nutrient Synergistic Purification Process:
This process establishes a synergistic effect between microorganisms, algae, and filter-feeding animals in the water, achieving sustainable and low-cost operation. Additionally, the combined carbon sequestration capacity of microorganisms, macroalgae, and filter-feeding animals enables ecological restoration while achieving multiple system carbon fixation goals.
This technology is highly versatile and can be applied to scattered or concentrated seawater aquaculture zones and coastal waters across China's coastal regions for ecological restoration.
Algae-Based Micro-Particle Composite High-Efficiency Pollutant-Degrading Microbial Community for Water Ecological Restoration
This innovative approach centers on modified algae-based minerals, which effectively load a composite pollutant-degrading microbial community onto algae-based minerals, forming a micro-particle composite pollutant-degrading preparation. It significantly enhances synergistic pollutant degradation, enabling rapid in-situ water purification, prolonged self-purification capabilities, and ecological function restoration.
Key Features:
·Efficient and Safe: Operates with minimal environmental impact and avoids secondary pollution.
·Simple and Cost-Effective: Easy to deploy, ensuring wide applicability.
Applications include:
·Urban and rural black and odorous water body treatment.
·Water quality improvement and ecological restoration of rivers, ponds, and lakes.
·Wastewater treatment, seawater aquaculture tailwater treatment, and ecological restoration of aquaculture zones.
Significance
These innovative technologies represent a breakthrough in ecological restoration, offering sustainable and scalable solutions to mitigate the environmental challenges posed by aquaculture and urban water bodies. The recognition of these achievements underscores Tianjin Desalination Institute's leadership in developing cutting-edge solutions for marine and freshwater ecosystem management.
