The Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR), under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was established in 2018 through the reorganization of several CAS institutes and is based in Beijing. AIR focuses on research and applications in aerospace information technologies, including remote sensing science, navigation and positioning, spatial information systems, artificial intelligence, and big data. The institute plays a vital role in national key projects, environmental monitoring, natural resource surveys, and the Belt and Road Initiative.
